More About This Treatment

What is IPL?
Intense Pulsed Light is an alternative to conventional hair removal techniques such as waxing, shaving or threading. Similar to Laser, IPL uses light to remove unwanted hair by disabling hair in the follicle to give a permanent reduction in hair growth.
Am I suitable?
Our trained practitioners will carry out an in-depth consultation and patch test prior to your actual treatment. They will advise you on the best results you can expect to achieve. If you have any medical conditions or are currently pregnant or taking medication, please let us know at the time of booking the consultation so we can check your suitability.

How many treatments will I need?
Hair growth happens in 3 different phases and permanent reduction is achieved during one particular phase. This means typically a course of 8-10 sessions will be needed to start with. Each client will experience varying results, however we expect a reduction of between 70-95% in most cases. Some clients may need more treatments in the course before we achieve the desired results and all clients will need top up treatments at regular intervals.

How does it feel?
Most people liken the feeling to being flicked by an elastic band. The SkinBase system uses a special cooling handset applied to the skin prior to treatment and immediately after, providing a chemical-free anaesthetic effect on the skin to minimise any sensation.
How do I book?
You can book your consultation & patch test online or by calling reception. Your IPL Specialist will asses the area to be treated and create your bespoke plan before commencing your course.

Patch Test Information
If you are able to come with visible hair growth in the area of at least 1mm that would be preferable BUT NOT ESSENTIAL. Please do not expose the area to UV or self-tan for at least 4 weeks prior to the patch test. Avoid intense exfoliation, microdermabrasion or peels on the treated area at least for 1 week before. Avoid swimming in strong chlorinated water immediately before and after the patch test.
